An Air Force technical sergeant stole thousands of dollars worth of computer equipment from the military in Tucson, then tried to unload it on a popular Internet auction site.
Tech. Sgt. Kevin D. Schulz, who oversaw the computer inventory at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, helped himself to more than a dozen new laptop and desktop computers and monitors, then offered them for sale on eBay, base officials said.
Schulz, of the 355th Communications Squadron, was convicted in a June 26 court-martial on 21 criminal counts related to the theft, sale and attempted sale of military property.
The retail value of the stolen items is close to $20,000, according to searches of computer-sales Web sites using model numbers provided by the Air Force.
Schulz's haul included four high-end Panasonic Toughbook laptop computers, six Dell Optiplex desktop computers and several 17-inch flat-panel monitors. All were stolen during the last two weeks of January.

Schulz was caught when he sold one of the computers to Air Force investigators, charge sheets in the case show.
He was sentenced to four months in jail and a $5,000 fine, which if not paid will add another two months of jail time to his sentence.
Schulz, who enlisted in 1992, also was reduced in rank to senior airman, which equates to a reduction in salary.
He remains in the Air Force.
