A Sierra Vista man has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder after police say he fatally shot another man with whom he had argued earlier in the day.
Robert R. Perry, 35, died at a Tucson hospital after being shot once in the abdomen Thursday afternoon, Sierra Vista police said Friday.
According to police, Perry and Daniel Grissom, 33, had been fighting at the post office parking lot, 2300 E. Fry Blvd., at about 10:15 a.m.
It was unclear what the altercation was about, but no injuries were reported and Grissom was cited and released on disorderly-conduct and criminal-damage charges, said Sgt. Daryl Copp, a Sierra Vista police spokesman.
About three hours later, a woman called 911 to report that her boyfriend — Perry — had been shot and that they were at Sierra Vista Regional Health Center, Copp said. Perry was later taken to a Tucson hospital, where he died the same night.

Grissom was taken into custody shortly after the shooting and was booked in to the Cochise County jail on one count of aggravated assault.
That charge was changed to manslaughter after Perry, who is also a Sierra Vista resident, died, Copp said. After reinterviewing key witnesses, the Police Department and the Cochise County Attorney's Office decided to upgrade that charge to first-degree murder.
Sierra Vista police would not say Friday exactly where the shooting occurred, citing the ongoing investigation.
In 2004, Grissom was arrested on two aggravated-assault charges, but both were dismissed by the courts.
