Tucson City Councilman Paul Cunningham hosted the second annual Tucson Happy Birthday Bake-Off last Friday at the Eastside City Hall, 7575 E. Speedway.
The event was part of monthlong celebrations for Tucson's 235th birthday. The bake-off featured 24 cakes - most made by local residents.
"It's an opportunity for citizens to celebrate Tucson artistically," Cunningham said. "Some of these cakes should be featured on (The Learning Channel reality show) 'Cake Boss.' "
The cakes were judged in five categories: taste, most creative, most representative of Tucson, best decorated and a youth category. The judges included Cunningham, former Councilwoman Janet Marcus, former University of Arizona basketball star Joseph Blair, former UA football star Max Zendejas and current UA punter Keenyn Crier.
The most-creative award went to Elizabeth Kamp, who made a cake in the shape of UA mascot Wilbur. The body was made out of red-velvet cake; the arms and legs were Rice Krispies treats, and the head was Styrofoam.

Kamp said last year she made a giant saguaro cactus and wanted to do something with the Wildcats this year. She worked on Wilbur for about a week, logging in about 25 hours. She said she's already thinking about her cake for next year because it requires a lot of planning.
