The Sonoran Desert Kids Club met Saturday at Agua Caliente Park for a walk to search for animal-created holes in the desert.
The outdoor adventure was headed by Doris Evan, a naturalist and volunteer for Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation. Evan, a retired teacher, talked about desert animals ranging from tarantulas and desert tortoises to woodpeckers and ground squirrels.
Before the walk, Evan familiarized participants - who included children and parents - about what to look for during the nature stroll.
The walk culminated in a close-up look at live animals such as a tarantula and snake, brought by Evan.
"If you look, you can see from where the spider spins its web," Evan said as she pointed to a live tarantula.
"These are the types of desert animals that can create some of those interesting holes in the ground."
