Question:
What kind of dress codes do schools have?
Answer:
In Marana, all students are expected to dress in good taste, according to the district's recommended dress code. That means belts must be tucked into pant loops, hats can't be worn indoors, and any article of clothing that refers to alcohol or illegal drugs is banned.
Individual schools in the district are encouraged to set policies based on recommendations from a dress code committee, said community relations coordinator Tamara Crawley.
Marana High School principal Jan Truitt said the biggest issue her staff deals with is mid-drifts, or shirts that expose the belly, and shorts that not do meet the 3-inch minimum inseam.

But Truitt says the kids at her school are pretty good at following the rules.
"They've come up from the middle and elementary schools having had these requirements," she said.
Flowing Wells has a district-wide policy that's reviewed and revised every couple of years. It forbids spiked jewelry, flip-flops in the elementary grades and pants that drag on the ground.
