A line from ATC's latest production, the very well-acted "Bob & Jean: A Love Story," resonated with me.
"Our parents are always something of a mystery, aren't they? We know them so well in certain ways ... not at all in others."
My parents departed this earth many years ago. How I wish I could have asked more questions about their personal lives.
How did Dad feel coming to this country as a youngster, witnessing his parents' divorce, watching his mother return to the old country with his sisters?
How did mother feel, finding out that the man she knew as her father was in reality her stepfather?
After watching this play, I encourage everyone whose parents are still among us to ask them important questions about the triumphs and tragedies of their lives. Their answers will draw you closer to them and will be woven into the family history.
