One of the lies currently being spread by the mainstream media is that the NRA has bought and paid for politicians with their political donations. It makes it sound like the NRA is a major political donor, and this is used to justify attacks on the NRA. They are not major donors. From 1998 to 2017, the NRA spent a total of $200 million on all political activities, or an average of $5 million per year. (Disclaimer - I am an NRA Life Member). While that sound like a lot, in 2016 alone, labor unions spent about $1.7 billion, with over 90% supporting Hillary Clinton or the Democratic Party. The difference is that the NRA represents its members, and we are politically active in support of their policies, unlike labor unions which extort money from all workers, regardless of their political persuasion, to support their liberal agenda.
