Dead jack rabbits literally cover the ground over a large strip of territory about six miles west of Douglas as the result of a hail storm which fell in that locality Sunday afternoon, says the International. They were caught and pelted and frozen to death.
The hail fell to a depth of eight inches in many places and remained on the ground until Monday afternoon before melting.
The White River got on a rampage as a result and, bank full, went rushing toward its mouth. The Ramsey bridge was swept away and floated down stream to the Whitney bridge, lodging on the piers of the latter.
The storm was a record-breaker for this time of the year in the Sulphur Springs Valley.
