Malena Washington scored 13 points and Dejza James added a season-high 12 points and the Arizona Wildcats prepared for their biggest nonconference game of the season with a 73-46 win over Grambling State Tuesday night in McKale Center.
The Wildcats (7-1) outscored Grambling 24-12 in the third quarter, growing a 5-point halftime deficit into a 17-point lead heading into the final quarter.
Arizona shot 58 percent from the field in the second half while holding the visiting Tigers to just 24 percent. Grambling hit just 2 of 14 3-pointers.
“I thought we had a much better second half,” coach Adia Barnes told reporters afterward. “We continue to play really well in the third quarter. We were a little sloppy at times and had a lot of turnovers, but this is a tough time for our players since it’s during finals and they have to stay sharp mentally. Overall I was impressed the way we responded after halftime.”
