Arizona Wildcats wide receiver Trey Griffey and his sister, UA basketball guard Taryn Griffey, discussed their famous father in an interview on Pac-12 Networks on Monday night. You can view a clip from the interview at the bottom of this post.
Ken Griffey Jr. was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame last week, earning the highest percentage of votes (99.318) in history. But his kids never thought of him as a future Hall of Famer.
“That was my dad,” Trey Griffey said. “You’re a young kid. When you see your dad, you’re not really thinking of him as 'Ken Griffey Jr.' You think of him as ‘Dad.’ ”
Trey also told a story about how, as a youth, he would “vandalize” his father’s baseball equipment.
Taryn said her dad was her favorite baseball player but that Kobe Bryant was her favorite basketball player. Trey’s football favorites were Calvin Johnson and Sean Taylor.

Trey Griffey will be a redshirt senior next season and is expected to have an expanded role with big receivers Cayleb Jones and David Richards no longer on the roster.
Taryn Griffey, a redshirt freshman, has started 14 games this season and is averaging 9.6 points and 3.0 assists for the 10-6 Wildcats. She leads the team in three-point field goals made (29) and three-point percentage (45.3). The latter figure ranks third in the conference.
