CLIFTON, N.J. — On her drive to Upper Montclair Country Club, Lorena Ochoa said she saw sunshine and blue skies.
Ochoa faced a two-shot deficit going into the final round of the Sybase Classic, but she said she was happy.
She worked out in the morning, attended a local church service and soon would be trying to put a stamp on her No. 1 ranking.
"This was the week I was ready to do it," she said.
After three mostly sleepy and soggy days at the Sybase Classic, Ochoa — a former UA standout — awakened the galleries at Upper Montclair, shooting a 4-under-par 68 on Sunday to defeat Sarah Lee (73) by three shots and defend her title on a new course.
Ochoa, who won last year's event at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, N.Y., finished at 18-under 270, notching her first victory in four attempts since overtaking Annika Sorenstam — another former UA star — last month as the world's No.1 golfer.
