Sometimes the specialization of sports gear can get a bit much. And when you first hear the term "trail running shorts," you might wonder: What's wrong with my regular running shorts?
Of course, there's nothing wrong with them. However, the lightweight fabric that provides a perfectly fine cover for all your road runs can be easily ripped by an errant branch on the trail.
So if you spend much time off-road, it makes sense to at least have a pair or two of shorts that fit a bit tighter and stand up to more rugged use. The Mammut MTR 71 shorts are just what you need.
They have a looser fit than bike shorts but fit snugly enough to keep from snagging every bush you run past. The polyester/spandex blend is a bit sturdier while still offering a high level of breathability, particularly with the mesh material on the sides. The shorts also feature a FreshTech antimicrobial treatment to keep your sweat from causing odor, and a single pocket in the back waistband is a good spot to stow your car keys.

And while the shorts deliver on all the technical features for running, they offer enough coverage and a traditional fit so that they don't look out of place if you're at the coffee shop.
