Betty Blue’s Junk Shop will close its doors after business May 28.
The funky midtown resale shop opened in September 2011. But because of health issues the store’s owner, Kim Kysar, is facing, she says the store has to close.
“I can’t handle running the store seven days a week,” Kysar said. “If I stay open, one of us will be run into the ground.”
The store, at 262 S. Plumer Ave., has gained a following in the resale community. “The business is doing well,” Kysar said. “More and more people are finding us. So, it’s frustrating to shut down when it’s doing well. But, you gotta do what you gotta do.”
Kysar said her deepest regret in closing is having to let her only full-time employee, Lisa Stefani, go. “She’s amazing,” she said. “I couldn’t have done it without her.

Betty Blue’s Junk Shop is not selling the business or the name. Instead, it will still have an online presence. Kysar will sell on Craigslist, eBay, Facebook and Etsy. She will also have an occasional pop-up store. “I still have to keep something going,” she said.
“I am really proud of ... being able to help people find stuff from their childhood,” Kysar continued. “It brought a lot of joy to people. They had fun in here. And we had fun.”
