Mireles named president at HSL
Omar Mireles has been named president of HSL Properties Inc., replacing co-founder Humberto S. Lopez who will remain chairman of the company’s board.
Mireles joined HSL as executive vice president in 2003. He has managed a property portfolio worth more than $800 million, including 41 apartment complexes with more than 10,000 units across Arizona. The change was effective Tuesday, Lopez’s 70th birthday, the company said. Lopez, Mireles’ uncle, has led the company since 1975.
Originally from Nogales, Mireles spent much of his childhood in Tucson and graduated from Salpointe Catholic High School before heading to Cornell University in New York to study policy analysis of consumer economics and housing.
He worked as an analyst with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette in New York, which merged with Credit Suisse First Boston, before returning to Tucson to join HSL.

Mireles has structured and negotiated more than $500 million in real estate transactions and more than $300 million in loan transactions, the company says. Besides its apartment holdings, HSL owns three resort properties in the Tucson area.
AT&T opens interactive store
AT&T has announced the opening of a new-concept wireless store in Tucson.
The store at 6351 E. Broadway is designed so customers can explore and interact with the latest technology.
The store features a zone with “lifestyle vignettes” showing how products can be used every day; an area with interactive “community tables,” displaying apps, accessories and devices working together; and “explore walls” showing a variety of AT&T devices and accessories next to digital monitors explaining how they work.
AT&T says it invested more than $60 million in its Tucson area wireless and wireline networks from 2012 through 2014.
