Freshmen enrollment at Stockton University grew 2 percent this year and overall enrollment is up 4 percent, college officials announced last week.
Chief Enrollment Management Officer Robert Heinrich reported the enrollment figures to the Board of Trustees at its Wednesday meeting at the new campus.
For the fall 2018 semester, there are 1,595 freshmen enrolled and 9,621 total students.
The enrollment increase marks another year of growth for the South Jersey university that recently opened its $176 million Atlantic City campus with housing for more than 500 students.
This year’s growth pushed the college closer to its 10,000 enrollment goal, but fell short of last year’s freshmen enrollment growth at 32 percent when an additional 350 first-year students began classes.

In other business, Leo Schoffer was named the new chairman of the board, replacing Madeleine Deininger, who completed her term. Ray Ciccone will become vice chair.
Sophomore Nadira Anderson, 19, of Bergenfield, was sworn in as the new student trustee alternate and Deon Davis of Atlantic City moves into the student trustee position. The board recognized outgoing student trustee Ike Ejikeme.
