Nowhere Man and a Whiskey Girl are probably the best-known Bisbee group in Tucson, where they often play Delectables and other North Fourth Avenue and Congress Street venues.
Derrick and Amy Ross, who make up the singer-songwriter duo doing quirky originals, live in Bisbee but aren't on the label's roster even though they turn up in recording credits or play in the bands that back up Old Bisbee Records artists during live performances.
"Our first couple of records we did on a little label up in Phoenix. By our third album we realized we could do it ourselves," says Ross, the guitarist and half of the duo.
Ross says playing in Tucson has been good for the duo, but not easy. He recalls playing the lounge stage at Plush and being roundly ignored, at least at first.
He says breaking in, getting a gig and then developing a loyal following is harder in Tucson than Bisbee. But now they draw a bigger crowd with their shows.
