The war against cancer can be won one milonga at a time.
That's what local tango enthusiast Chuck Clayton had in mind when he started planning for Saturday's ICAN Tango benefit concert.
Proceeds from the event, taking place at Pima Community College's Proscenium Theatre, will go toward the Remission Coach Programs of the International Cancer Advocacy Network (ICAN).
"Tango is not a tough sell," Clayton said. "It is a very beautiful, eloquent, sensual dance. I thought it would be a lot of fun to put on a show like this while raising money for a good cause."
The evening will start with a fashion show, sporting original tango-themed creations for women by designer Diana Lopez of Indi Apparel.
From there, some of Tucson's most skilled tango dancers, including Tucson Tango Fest coordinator Rusty Cline, will perform 12 different dance numbers in groups and in pairs.

The movement will be broken up by local vocalist Melissa Alejandra, who will sing a couple of popular tango numbers, including "El día que me quieras," a song composed by Argentine superstar, Buenos Aires-born Carlos Gardel.
"He was like the Elvis of the genre," Clayton said.
Top off the evening with a silent auction and playful skits and you have the making of what Clayton hopes will be a fruitful event for ICAN.
"We have so much talent in this city," Clayton said. "We might as well highlight it."
