St. Philip’s in the Hills Friends of Music is closing out its Summer Sizzler Series on Sunday, Sept. 18, with a blast of jazz from a trio of Tucson’s most formidable purveyors of the genre.
The Jason Carder Trio, headed by trumpeter Jason Carder, will perform jazz standards and works from their most recent album, “Enough Said,” which draws on music that spans the 1500s to 1967 and draws links to the American South. That means that you can expect to hear some soulful blues and common hymns mixed in when they hit the stage at 2 p.m.
Carder, who grew up in Arizona and was an alumni of the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy and University of Miami, teaches jazz at the University of Arizona’s Fred Fox School of Music. His trio includes his former Fred Fox colleague Jeff Haskell on piano and saxophonist Brice Winston, who co-owns the acclaimed Tucson Jazz Institute.
