It's about time we stop referring to Tucson R&B singer Crystal Stark with her "American Idol" contestant moniker.
After all, since her short-lived run on the talent show in 2006, she's gone on to establish herself as an extraordinary and in-demand Tucson vocalist. People flocking to her shows with the Tucson Jazz Society or with the Tucson Pops Orchestra aren't turning out because she appeared on the popular TV show.
Stark is taking her talent to a new venue on Saturday - Mays Counter Chicken & Waffles at 2945 E. Speedway Blvd.
She's recruited a a trio of fine Tucson musicians - Mike Levy belting out the bass line, Ed Delucia working wonders on guitar, and Aaron Emery banging some mean soulful drums. She'll do some standards, some classics and some new stuff from her forthcoming "Soul Jazz."
