It apparently hasn't taken people long to become attached to Mark Fontana's New York Pizza Department restaurant.
Six months after opening, Fontana expanded from an intimate spot at 1521 N. Wilmot Road into the nearly 1,200-square-foot vacant space next door, tripling his seating from 30 to 90, he said.
"It has an office, which is good. We're expanding the kitchen mostly for storage," he said. "Gives us a little room to move around."
He opened the new space last week and it didn't take long to fill the tables. Last Sunday, he hosted a party of almost 30.
With the expanded seating comes an expanded menu that will include eight more calzones - think pizza folded in half - and the introduction of stromboli - think pizza rolled into a log - both starting at $7.25.
The Buffalo, N.Y., native and former University of Arizona football player is also rolling out a 10-item, 20-inch pie, The Situation - a nod to Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino of "Jersey Shore" fame. The pie sells for $26.95 and feeds as many as eight.
