Bagpipes played Sunday after communion at St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church as people took tartans - also known as a Scottish family's plaid - to the altar to be blessed by the priest.
It was the Blessing o' the Tartans at the church, located at 4440 N. Campbell Ave.
Seven Pipers Scottish Society bagpipers and drummers finished the ceremony with Scottish tunes as they led the way out of the church and into the courtyard, where they continued to entertain with a rendition of the Scottish folk melody "Scotland the Brave."
The Blessing o' the Tartans, a custom created centuries ago in Scotland, was held during the 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. church services.
A little more than 60 people attended the 9 a.m. service and witnessed the blessing.
