Maundy Thursday or Holy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles as described in the Canonical Gospels — Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.Â
The scene was popularized in "The Last Supper," late 15th-century mural painting by Leonardo da Vinci in the refectory of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan, Italy.
The Last Supper, most likely a feast of Passover, is the preparation of the disciples for the departure of Jesus. He predicts the betrayal (by Judas) and denial (by Peter) and is scriptural foundation for the Eucharist or Holy Communion.Â
The Holy Communion is an observance or sacrament practiced by all most all Christians that is reenacted in accordance with Jesus' instructions, per catholicity.com:

And having taken bread, he gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body, which is being given for you; do this in remembrance of me."
