Safety is one of the most important issues to consider when learning how to ride a bike.
The Pima County Department of Transportation and the City of Tucson sponsor free bike safety classes for all types or riders, including one set up for beginners ages 16 and above. They also have a class especially for ladies (Women's Road 1).
And for more advanced students who have an understanding of vehicular cycling principles, there's the Road 2 Training and Fitness Class, that includes training for longer rides.
Matthew Zoll, Bicycle and Pedestrian Program Manager with the Pima County Department of Transportation, shared this information with us and suggested that, as a new rider, is important to learn how to be as safe as possible in traffic, especially when planning to participate in an event like El Tour de Tucson.
