Dr. Wen Cai is the new chief medical officer of La Frontera in Tucson.
La Frontera provides community-based services for adults and children suffering from mental illness, emotional disorders and people facing challenges with abuse, neglect and drug and alcohol abuse.
Cai, who replaces Dr. James D. McDaniel, is the former medical director for the Southeastern Arizona Behavioral Health System, which operates eight outpatient clinics and one psychiatric hospital.
In the past, Cai was a clinical professor in the University of Arizona College of Medicine’s department of psychiatry, and was in private practice.
He also held a faculty position at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center where he led his own research team and conducted neuroscience research in the field of emotional and cognitive memory.

Cai’s research has focused on treatment options to psychiatric illnesses including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, anxiety disorders and attention deficit disorder.
He received his medical degree from Shanghai Medical University in China and earned a doctorate in neuroscience from Wayne State University in Detroit.
