Students at Desert Willow Elementary School were evacuated and taken to the nearby Desert Sky Middle School after a threatening note was found.
The school administration contacted Tucson police at about 11:18 a.m., according to Officer Kristopher Goins, a police spokesman. The situation was treated as a bomb threat.
The threat was based on a note a student found in a girls' bathroom, said Natalie Luna Rose, a Vail Unified School District spokeswoman.
Tucson police responded, cordoned off the area and assisted with evacuating students. The bomb squad responded to examine the threat.
All students, except for the morning kindergarten students who already went home for the day, have been taken to the middle school at 9850 E. Rankin Loop, Luna Rose said.Â
Students were taken back to the elementary school at 9400 E. Esmond Loop at about 1:30 p.m. after police cleared the school, she said. All after-school activities have been cancelled.Â
