Pima Community College has hired a new top boss for its troubled human resources operation.
Daniel Berryman, an assistant vice chancellor for human resources at the University of Tennessee, starts work at the Tucson school Feb. 9.
He will receive an annual salary of $170,576.
PCC Chancellor Lee Lambert said Berryman “has the wide-ranging experience needed to increase the effectiveness of HR” — an area heavily criticized by PCC’s accreditor when it placed the college on probation last year.
The accreditor found the HR department was corrupted under the school’s previous leadership, with top officials engaged in questionable hirings and promotions and wrongful targeting of employees for disciplinary action.
Berryman has two decades of experience in HR administration.

Berryman recently was named as a finalist for the top HR job at the University of New Mexico but was not selected for that position.
He holds a master’s degree in human resources management from Pepperdine University and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of California-Santa Barbara.
