‘Tis the season for supporting seniors in need, and a local nonprofit makes it easy and convenient to fulfill their wish lists.
Lend A Hand Senior Assistance, which provides a range of services to allow seniors to remain independent in their homes, is seeking monetary donations to stage a Holiday Luncheon for clients on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
“Before I started volunteering, I didn’t realize how many older people are alone. Their family doesn’t live here or they don’t have family anymore, so they are truly by themselves, and Lend A Hand is here to help,” said Janet Burt, coordinator for the organization, which serves 143 seniors in 12 neighborhoods throughout central Tucson.
Burt said services include transportation to medical appointments, food delivery, assistance with errands and transportation to social activities such as exercise classes and luncheons.

Lend A Hand also offers minor home repairs, friendly visits and other services.
“They have so much fun at the social events. We have some remarkable clients: Everyone has a story. It is so rewarding meeting these people and hanging out with them,” said Burt, who has been a volunteer for nine years.
