Attention pet owners — now is the time to spay and neuter Fluffy and Fido.
The Pima County Health Department is offering free spaying and neutering for pets belonging to residents of 14 neighborhoods through Dec. 31.
The spay and neuter surgeries will be performed on both dogs and cats that are between 2 months and 5 years old and weigh at least 3 pounds.
The services are being provided through a partnership between the Animal Welfare Alliance of Southern Arizona and the Pima Animal Care Center in an effort to reduce the number of local unwanted and stray animals, thousands of which are euthanized every year.
Residents of the following communities are eligible — Pueblo Gardens; Littletown; Midvale Park; Barrio Hollywood; South Tucson; Picture Rocks; Pascua Yaqui; Catalina; Ajo; Arivaca; Three Points; Avra Valley; the Tohono O'odham Nation; and the Nogales Highway Neighborhoods. Appointments can be made by calling Animal Birth Control, 1114 S. Craycroft Road, at 624-5005; Arizona Spay Neuter Clinic, 4 W. Grant Road, at 745-4564; Eastside Spay & Neuter Pet Clinic, 7036 E. Broadway, at 731-1714; or the Humane Society of Southern Arizona, 3720 N. Kelvin Blvd., at 881-0321.
