Organizers of Sunday’s Cyclovia Tucson expect to draw thousands of participants, eager to enjoy nearly 5 miles of car-free streets from Downtown to South Tucson.
A biannual event, Cyclovia began in Tucson in 2010 with a small group of community members who wanted to improve the quality of life and encourage physical activity.
Sixty percent of Tucsonans are interested in riding a bike for transportation but are concerned about their safety, according to the Living Streets Alliance, a sponsor of the event.
Cyclovia offers an opportunity for walkers, joggers, cyclists, skaters and all other forms of people-powered movement to enjoy beautiful weather, see neighbors and friends and get some exercise in a safe environment.
In 2014, more than 50,000 people attended one of two Cyclovia events held in different locations around the Tucson metro area.

Cyclovia runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and there is no official start or end point to the route. Participants are encouraged to access the event from any point of the nearly 5-mile loop.
Dozens of free activities, entertainment, food trucks, live music and DJs will be set up along the route.
