Libraries closed for Labor Day
All Tucson-Pima Public Library locations will be closed Monday in observance of the Labor Day holiday. The book drops will remain open.

MDA telethon starts tonight
The 41st Labor Day Telethon benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association starts tonight at 6 p.m. and ends at 4 p.m. Monday.
The telethon is being broadcast from the South Coast Hotel, Casino & Spa in Las Vegas and will be shown on 190 "Love Network" stations nationwide, including KGUN-TV, Channel 9.
Jerry Lewis will dedicate this year's telethon to Robert Ross, MDA's longtime chief executive, who died in June.

The broadcast's primary aim is raising money for MDA's research programs and services for children and adults with any of more than 40 neuromuscular diseases.
Telethon anchor Ed McMahon will return for his 39th year. The telethon promises a mixture of entertainment, singers, dancers, comedians, bands and novelty acts.
KGUN will air information about local services and the families they benefit during breaks in the national broadcast.

The Giving Tree receives donation
The Mr. Goodcents Foundation presented The Giving Tree with a $5,000 check to support efforts to help seniors gain greater independence through transportation and housing. The check was presented Aug. 31 by the Mr. Goodcents Sub and Pasta store, located at 4430 E. 22nd St.
The Giving Tree Outreach Program aims to support and improve the quality of life for children, families, elderly and disabled individuals. The Giving Tree is a faith-based organization committed to breaking the cycle of poverty, homelessness, and abuse in this group of disadvantaged and underserved individuals. The organization distributes hot meals, food boxes and clothing, and provides tutoring, mentoring, transportation and referrals. It also operates a residence for homeless and transitional children.
Community groups given $14,000
The PacifiCare Foundation, a nonprofit organization established by PacifiCare, a UnitedHealthcare company, gave $14,000 to two Tucson-based community organizations.
Angel Flight West — Arizona Wing, which arranges free air transportation in response to health care and other compelling human needs, received a $10,000 grant to support Camp Angel services, its emergency response preparedness and its expansion of services to new areas.
The Primavera Foundation Inc., a human rights organization that promotes economic and social justice, received a $4,000 donation to assist Primavera's emergency service program for the homeless.

Free VIN etching offered Sept. 16
Farmers Insurance with Safelite Auto Glass is hosting a free VIN etching from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 16 in the parking lot located at 11115 N. La Cañada Drive in Oro Valley.
A VIN etch is a permanent engraving of the vehicle identification number on the windshield and windows of the car.
