A former Tucson Border Patrol agent has been sentenced to 20 months in prison for accepting bribes.
Agent Yamilkar Fierros pleaded guilty in August 2010 to accepting $3,000 the previous year in return for providing a suspected drug smuggler with a list of 109 Border Patrol sensor locations in Sonoita, a U.S. Attorney’s Office press release shows.
Fierros had also was indicted for accepting $1,000 from a drug smuggler for a law-enforcement-sensitive map of the San Rafael Valley in Southeaster Arizona, which showed roads, trails, landmarks and terminology used by the Border Patrol to counter drug traffickers.
In addition, Fierros had been indicted for accepting $1,500 from a drug smuggler in exchange for a list of 65 sensor locations in the Sonoita area and for agreeing to make sure a drug load made it unscathed from Patagonia to Tucson, the press release says.
