A Tucson man who killed his father was given 730 days in prison Monday and given credit for the 778 days he’s already served in jail, meaning he will be released from prison as soon as the paperwork is complete.
On April 4, 2009, Isabel Ratliff told police she found her former husband covered in blood after her son, Rocky Sandoval, called to tell her he thought he’d killed his father, according to court records. The officers found Dominic D. Sandoval, 49, dead in his home near West 36th Street and South Mission Road.
Sandoval, 28, told police he and his father had been drinking when his father attacked him with a broom and he beat his father with a broken mirror and his fists. They retreated to their separate bedrooms, according to court records. He found his father dead the next morning.
Last month Sandoval pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was facing between two and 8.75 years in prison.

Assistant Attorney General Michael Jette told Judge Howard Fell of Pima County Superior Court he thought the time Sandoval has already spent in jail was sufficient. The prosecutor noted Dominic Sandoval suffered from an undiagnosed medical condition that exacerbated the bleeding he suffered during the fight and that led to his death.
