Two men accused of robbing motel guests in South Tucson have each been indicted on nearly two dozen charges.
The Aug. 3 robbery at the Star Motel resulted in one of the men being shot by South Tucson Police Sgt. Sean Masters when he reportedly tried to run Masters over.
Julio Camargo, 27, and Joseph Varela, 22, were indicted on 18 charges, including armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated robbery, kidnapping, burglary and possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited possessor.
In addition, Camargo was indicted on a charge of aggravated assault on a police officer.
Their arrests stem from an incident reported just before 2 a.m. when two men — one armed with an SKS assault rifle — forced their way into a motel room, police said.
The pair kicked in the door and ordered three people to the floor while a fourth hid in the bathroom, court documents state.

One of the victims was pistol-whipped before all three were ordered to take off their clothing, the complaint said.
The men fled after demanding money and keys from the victims. Upon leaving the room, the men encountered Masters and another officer in the parking lot.
Camargo and Varela remained in the Pima County jail Friday morning.
