The Tucson Police Department is accepting applications from students age 13 to 17 for its Teen Citizens' Police Academy, according to a department news release.
The course will begin March 31 at the Tucson Public Safety Academy, 10001 S. Wilmot Road, with classes from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on seven consecutive Sundays. The class is limited to 50 students and the application deadline is March 15.
Classes include instructions and demonstrations on topics that include drug awareness, school safety, leadership, gangs, domestic violence and citizen rights and responsibilities.
Students earn three college credit hours through Pima Community College upon completion of the programs and are eligible to return as class counselors.
Applications are available at the Tucson Police Department, 270 S. Stone Ave., or from any school resource officer.
