A journalist who has ties to the University of Arizona has been reported missing in Syria by her news organization.
Arab satellite TV station Al-Jazeera said Dorothy Parvaz, 39, has not been heard from since arriving Friday in Damascus. Parvaz left Doha, Qatar, to help cover the uprising that has shaken Syria since mid-March, according to the Al-Jazeera website.
The unrest has been marked by protests against the authoritarian regime in the country.
Parvaz, who has U.S., Iranian and Canadian citizenship, received her master's degree in journalism from the University of Arizona in 1997, said Susan Knight, an associate professor at the UA School of Journalism.
Parvaz joined Al-Jazeera in 2010 and recently reported on the Japanese earthquake and tsunami for the network, according to its website. She previously worked for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
