New York comedian Erik Rivera will be featured at the 14th Annual Laughter on the Sunnyside on Sunday.
Rivera, a regular at Comic Strip Live, Broadway Comedy Club and The Comedy Cellar, will perform at The Pearl, 445 W. Wetmore Road, along with the oldies group Ronny & the Classics.
The 5 p.m. event is a fundraiser for the Sunnyside Foundation, which formed in 1996 to provide funding for academic programs in the Sunnyside Unified School District. Tickets are $75 each or $125 for two. The evening will include dancing, dinner and a silent auction.
"One of the main goals of the foundation is to create a $1 million endowment to ensure the long-term support of the students," said Nicola Hartmann, foundation executive director.
The foundation has reached 65 percent of its goal of raising money for the endowment, but because of the funding cuts the district is facing from the state Legislature, the board is committed to increase support to students now, Hartmann said.
