This is the last installment of a series of weekly features about fun forays for families.
Throughout the summer we've focused on inexpensive or free activities for families.
This week we're heading to a cool indoor venue.
Millions of people worldwide enjoy bowling, and it's not just a weekend sport: Last Friday dozens of people were hurling balls down the lanes at Tucson Bowl, 7020 E. 21st St.
Tucson Bowl is owned by Vantage Bowling Centers, which owns several other bowling alleys in Tucson. The one closest to the Foothills is Fiesta Lanes, 501 W. River Road, near North Oracle Road.
Gary Gaynor Jr., who manages Tucson Bowl, said his building is the smallest of the five Vantage Bowling Centers in Tucson, but he says the open space between the alleys gives an opportunity for people to talk to each other.

Parents can enjoy beer or wine back by the bar and still watch their kids down near the alley.
One thing all the bowling alleys offer is lots of different bowling leagues for all ages and skill levels. They also have specials on food and drinks, bowling and shoe rental.
Bowling has universal appeal, Gaynor said, because everyone can enjoy it.
"It's a very family-oriented activity - very inclusive of any age and ability. Not all sports can handle that."
Joanne Neece, 73, was all smiles after getting a spare. She bowls every week with a league called "Senior Color Pins"; she's been part of the league for 15 years.
Neece started bowling in her teens and has also competed in tournaments. These days, it's a way for her to get out and socialize.
Plus, she said, "it's good exercise for us old people."
