Leadership award given to Nova CEO
Jon Volpe, CEO of Nova Home Loans, was presented with the Exemplary Community Leadership Award by Joe Galat, current president of American Youth Football.
Volpe is a former Amphitheater High School star athlete who overcame significant personal challenges to graduate with honors from Stanford University, pursue a professional football career and be named No. 1 Mortgage Loan Originator in the United States for Nova for the last four years.
Volpe sponsors The Boys and Girls Club of Tucson, as well as other organizations that provide support and assistance to kids in need. He recently received local honors as a recipient of the 40 Under 40 title and a position on the Inside Tucson Business Up and Comers list.
His award was presented at the National American Youth Football and American Youth Cheer Championships banquet. Tucson is hosting this year's competition this week throughDec. 19.

Travel restricted for Arroyo Chico project
Travel on northbound Alvernon Way between Hayne and Whittier streets just north of 22nd Street, will be restricted to one lane until Dec. 23. This will allow work crews to replace a sewer line and drainage pipe for the Arroyo Chico Drainage Improvement Project.
There are no southbound travel restrictions on Alvernon Way.
Timrod Street will be closed to through traffic from Alvernon Way to Columbus Boulevard.
This work is one phase of the Arroyo Chico project from Alvernon Way to Rosemont Boulevard.
Delays can be expected when driving, bicycling or walking in the work area.
Business and residential access will be maintained to the extent possible with only short, infrequent closures when heavy equipment is directly in front of a driveway.

● The Miracle Manor Neighborhood Association will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tonight at the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church, 715 W. Vanover Road.
● The Vista Del Monte Neighborhood Association will have a holiday party from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lighthouse YMCA, 2900 N. Columbus Blvd.
● The Mountain View Neighborhood Association will meet at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Woods Memorial Library, 3455 N. First Ave. On the agenda is a of neighborhood goals and talk about meth issues.
Ex-football stars to raise money for kids at TMC
Two former professional football players will use their signatures to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network, supporting pediatric services at Tucson Medical Center.
Former Dallas Cowboy Duane Thomas and former San Francisco 49er Cedrick Hardman will autograph photos or almost any item customers take to the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market, 3925 E. Grant Road, Wednesday and Thursday.
A $10 donation for each autograph will go to the Children's Miracle Network at TMC.
