Tortoise lovers needed: Volunteers study the reptiles and their natural history, field phone inquiries, do yard inspections and find homes for adoptable tortoises.
Tax-site coordinator: The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program provides free tax-return preparation for those eligible for the earned income tax credit. Each preparation site needs an experienced tax preparer to provide coordination, organization and supervision during tax season. Free IRS training.
Asset development: Resource specialists educate lower-income tax-paying families about protecting and building assets. They describe public benefits, run credit reports and benefit checks and refer taxpayers to information sources. Specialists receive free training, but a background in financial literacy is preferred.
