Neighbor meetings
● The Silverbell Terrace Neighborhood Association will meet at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at 1933 W. Water St., weather permitting.
● The Cabrini Neighborhood Association will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. Francis Cabrini Church Hall, Room 5, 3201 E. Presidio Road. On the agenda are Pima County Neighborhood Reinvestment money; action reports from committees; a grant request for a water-harvesting project; minutes from the last meeting; and new business.
● The Samos Neighborhood Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Hall of Fame room at Salpointe Catholic High School, 1545 E. Copper St.
Sam Hughes names 3 contest winners
The Sam Hughes Neighborhood Association recently sponsored a poster contest at Sam Hughes Elementary School, 700 N. Wilson Ave. The theme was neighborhood safety, which has been the focus of the neighborhood association's newsletter.

The three winners of the contest and their slogans are:
● Peter Chipman: "Keep our neighborhood safe by only crossing the street when the light is green."
● Leslie Pille: "Keep our neighborhood safe by stopping bullying."
● Jennifer Wong: "Keep our neighborhood safe by not running through the busy street."
Each winner received a $25 gift certificate. The winning posters will be on exhibit at the school and at local businesses.

Sign up to join in Rodeo Parade
Anyone interested in taking part in the Tucson Rodeo Parade can call the parade office at 294-1280. The deadline for entries is Sunday.
The South Side parade will begin at 9 a.m. on Feb. 22.

Eat free breakfast, back mentally ill
The Community Partnership of Southern Arizona Regional Behavioral Heath Authority is sponsoring a free breakfast to kick off publicity efforts for the Nation's Voice on Mental Illness Walk. The breakfast's guest speaker will be Peter Likins, former University of Arizona president and honorary co-chair of the walk.
Breakfast will be served from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Feb. 8 at the Manning House, 450 W. Paseo Redondo. Parking is available west of the building. Space is limited, and participants are asked to make reservations by Jan. 31. Call 622-5582.
The walk, scheduled for March 31, aims to raise money and awareness about the nation's need for a better treatment and recovery system for the mentally ill.

Youth hoops event set for Saturday
The Tucson Parks and Recreation Department's Northwest Center, 2160 N. Sixth Ave., will host its youth basketball bonanza from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The event is free for boys and girls ages 9 to 14. Competition will be in three categories: hotshot, three-point shootout and free throw.
Participants will be divided into age divisions, and all will receive ribbons. Winners can advance to a state final event, to be held in April.
The bonanza is sponsored by the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association and the Phoenix Suns. For more information, call the Northwest Center at 791-3247.
