Start thinking about open enrollment
Parents interested in open enrollment for the 2011-12 school year in the Marana Unified School District have until Feb. 1 to apply.
The district offers open enrollment as outlined by state law. Subject to admission standards and space available, the district's schools allow students to enroll who live in areas that feed into other Marana schools as well as students who live in other school districts.
Open enrollment approval is granted on a year-to-year basis, and students on open-enrollment status must reapply every year.

Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge No. 2815 will hold its annual kids' shopping spree Saturday at Tucson Mall to help children from low-income families.
Last year, the group provided 35 students from Marana Unified School District's Roadrunner Elementary, 16651 W. Calle Carmela, with $140 worth of shoes and clothing from JCPenney.
Volunteers from the Elks and the school helped each of the children with their purchases.
This year, after the shopping spree the Elks will host a Christmas party at their Catalina lodge, 16045 N. Oracle Road. Santa Claus is scheduled to arrive by fire truck, courtesy of the Golder Ranch Fire District, and give each child a toy.
