Nico's Taco Shop is bringing its Mexican fast food to North Thornydale Road and West Linda Vista Boulevard.
Among the food staples found at Nico's are spicy chorizo breakfast burritos, carne asada tacos and cheesy nachos.
"This is a good location because there are not many fast-food Mexican restaurants," said Filiberto Carreon, who owns the new taco shop.
The family restaurants — named for a brother — began in San Diego, Carreon said. Nico's expanded to Tucson in 1994.
After Carreon opened the first Nico's in the Old Pueblo, other family members followed.
The restaurants now can be found all over the Tucson area. All of them are owned and operated by siblings, nieces and nephews, said Carreon, whose family immigrated here from Mexico.

Carreon said one of the most popular food items at Nico's is its breakfast burrito, which rolls a variety of fillings — such as bacon, potatoes, egg and cheese — into a flour tortilla.
"Students like burritos a lot," said Carreon.
With that in mind, the entrepreneur said, he jumped at the chance to open another Nico's across the street from Mountain View High School.
Nick Carouso, 17, is a student who really likes Nico's.
"It's kind of nice to have it so close, so easy to get to," said Carouso, a junior at Mountain View.
A few days before Nico's opened Wednesday, he and friends Kristyn Nakasone, 18, and Paul Titus, 17, said they couldn't wait to add Nico's to a limited list of eateries within walking distance of school.
When she doesn't feel like eating in the school cafeteria, Nakasone said, she'll probably head to Nico's.
"The food is good," she said.
