A 50-meter, Olympic regulation pool opened in Oro Valley last week, marking the completion of the first phase of a larger project that will include a splash pad, water slide and 25-yard recreational pool in March.
The pool, which is part of a $5 million project at James D. Kriegh Park, 23 W. Calle Concordia, is only available to lap swimmers for now, and is open from 3 to 8 p.m. weekdays. General admission is $4, with discounts available for Oro Valley residents, teens, children and seniors.
"The completion of the 50-meter pool is a tremendous milestone in the Aquatic Center Expansion Project. Our priority was to have this pool ready for our local swim teams," Oro Valley Mayor Satish Hiremath said in a statement before the Sept. 19 opening.
"We're excited about moving on to Phase II now, and building a facility that will become the recreational heart of our community."
