The Fourth Avenue Spring Street Fair 2012 includes more than 35 food vendors and 40-plus arts and crafts booths along with concerts and street performers. There's a kids hands-on art pavilion, which includes activities by the Children's Museum Tucson, face painting, balloons and more.

• The street fair started in 1970 when a handful of merchants put tables in front of their shops to attract customers. The fair now draws between 200,000 and 350,000 people over three days.

Where to park
1. It's cheap and easy to park in the garages.
• The new Plaza Centro Garage, 345 E. Congress St., costs $5 and is at the south end of the fair. You just have to walk under the Fourth Avenue underpass. Get to the garage from Broadway.
• The Pennington Street Parking Garage, a few blocks from the event at 110 E. Pennington Street, costs $3. And there's a free shuttle from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Free parking is half a mile away at the UA Main Gate Garage, 815 E. Second St. Hop on a free shuttle.
• Bicyclists can use a free, self-park lot on the east side of Fourth Avenue at Seventh Street.
2. Parking badly is costly.
The neighborhood parking permit program is not enforced during Street Fair, but you can still get a ticket for safety violations. To avoid a fine of $62 to $565, don't park within 5 feet of any driveway, don't park at a red curb, and do park on the right side of the street.
3. Construction is on hold for the event.
Crews working on pre-streetcar construction projects will pick up where they left off when the street fair is over.
