Mary R. Kennedy reburied at new site
CENTERVILLE - Mary Richardson Kennedy has been reburied in a Cape Cod cemetery 700 feet from her original grave near other Kennedy family members.
Frank Maki, superintendent of the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery near Hyannisport, said Saturday that Robert Kennedy's estranged wife, who hanged herself in May, was exhumed earlier this month.
She was first buried on May 19 near her husband's aunt and uncle, Eunice Kennedy Shriver and Sargent Shriver.
Robert Kennedy Jr. reportedly asked that Mary Kennedy be reburied on a hilltop near empty plots he's negotiating to buy.

NEW YORK - A fire on a tourist-friendly New York City pier that sent a huge cloud of smoke billowing above Manhattan was doused without any injuries on Saturday, officials said.
Flames enveloped a 100-foot stretch of Pier 17 at South Street Seaport, which was teeming with hundreds of people when the fire broke out about 4 p.m. Fire Department officials said the blaze was burning beneath the East River pier.
"You could hear the wood crackling. It was very hot," said Sean James, a deckhand on a tourist speedboat who saw the fire break out.
A music festival was under way not far from the fire but resumed after the blaze was brought under control. None of the shops and restaurants along the pier was damaged, and the fire did not affect the shopping pavilion, also called Pier 17, that is slated for renovation.

Feline mayor is the cat's pajamas
TALKEETNA - The mayor of this sleepy Alaska town is feline just fine, thank you.
The cat clawed his way onto the political scene of Talkeetna through a write-in campaign shortly after he was born 15 years ago.
KTUU-TV reported Friday that residents didn't like the mayoral candidates years ago, so they encouraged enough people to elect Stubbs as a write-in candidate. The town has nearly 900 residents.
Although his position is honorary, Stubbs' popularity is real. His election earned him enough press to catapult the town at the base of Mount McKinley into a tourist destination.
