VINELAND — Mayor Anthony Fanucci on Saturday announced his intention to run for re-election in November.
“I have been humbled and encouraged by the number of people urging me to run for another term,” Fanucci said in a news release. “I am proud of what has been accomplished over the past four years working together with the members of City Council and our business, civic and spiritual leaders. I am excited at the opportunity to build on this progress as we move forward.”
During his time as mayor, Fanucci said officials have engaged with the community, developed regional partnerships and instituted a multiyear budgeting process, allowing them to rebuild a surplus and address long-delayed road projects and other infrastructure improvements.
In addition, officials have focused on environmental concerns by improving stormwater drainage systems, replacing and extending city water lines, planting trees, restoring greenery and creating rain gardens to reduce runoff, Fanucci said. They have upgraded existing recreational facilities and added new ones, enhanced public safety services with new facilities, equipment and personnel, and mitigated blighted properties.

“The next four years will be critical to sustaining the progress we have made and to implementing the necessary long-term policies to secure a prosperous future for the city,” Fanucci said. “I firmly believe that now, more than ever, continuity in leadership is critical for the city to weather the COVID-19 crisis and emerge stronger than ever.”
Fanucci is running with council members David Acosta, Elizabeth Arthur, Ron Franceschini, Paul Spinelli and Albert Vargas.
He became mayor in 2016 after serving as council president for four years.
