Former UA golfer Matt Bergstrom shot a 3-under-par 69 Sunday to win the Pima County Amateur at Crooked Tree Golf Course.
Bergstrom's victory ended the three-year reign of former Canyon del Oro High School golfer David McDaniel, who did not enter the two-day tournament. Bergstrom shot a tournament-low 65 on Saturday for a two-day total of 134.
Tucsonan Travis Gonda was second, shooting 72-67 but at 139 was five strokes behind Bergstrom. Former Salpointe Catholic golfer Robert Perrott III was third at 140, with rounds of 70-70.

Bertagnolli wins stage; Lance 13th
FAENZA, Italy — Leonardo Bertagnolli won the 15th stage of the Giro d'Italia with a long breakaway Sunday in severe heat, while Denis Menchov held onto the overall leader's pink jersey.

Bertagnolli finished in 4 hours 18 minutes 34 seconds as the temperature soared above 95 degrees. Serge Pauwels finished 54 seconds behind. Lance Armstrong finished 2:56 back.
Menchov kept a 34-second lead over Italy's Danilo Di Luca in the overall standings. Armstrong was 13th overall, 8:28 seconds back.

Double amputee wins two races
MANCHESTER, England — Oscar Pistorius returned to competition for the first time since breaking ribs in a boating accident, winning the 100 and 400 meters at the Paralympic World Cup on Sunday.
"Let's be honest, it was shocking. It was the worst time I've run in about 3 1/2 years," the 22-year-old double amputee from South Africa said of his 400 time of 50.28 seconds. "But I know I wasn't running hard and I know I can run better."
Pistorius won the 100 in 11.13 seconds.
• Driver Matt Williams won both Super Late Model feature races at Tucson Raceway Park on Saturday night. Other winners were Loren Sheffield (both Street Stock features), Jeff Czoka (Factory Stock), Jim Bates (Pro-4) and Brad Moyer (Late Model).
• A New Orleans Saints team spokesman says tight end Jeremy Shockey was taken to a hospital but is doing fine after being treated for dehydration. Greg Bensel confirmed Sunday that the team was aware that Shockey was released from the hospital.
• The agent of Steelers linebacker James Harrison says the player's young son is doing fine in a Pittsburgh hospital three days after an attack by a pit bull. James Harrison III, 2, was bitten on the thigh after his mother let the dog out of its pen Thursday afternoon.
• Miami Dolphins defensive end Randy Starks has been charged with using his truck to hit a police officer who tried to stop the vehicle on foot.
Miami Beach Police say the officer tried to stop Starks when he was driving a truck packed with 13 people Sunday in heavy traffic. They say the vehicle was meant for four people.
• Northwestern won its fifth straight NCAA championship in women's Division I lacrosse with a 21-7 victory over North Carolina on Sunday in Towson, Md.
