The son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was arrested after a shooting at Bieniemy's home in Virginia, authorities told USA Today Sports.
At about 7:32 p.m. on Sunday, Loudoun County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of a shooting in Ashburn, Virginia, where the Washington Commanders have their practice facility. Deputies found a woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds who was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries.Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Monday that Bieniemy's wife, Mia Bieniemy, 57, was in stable condition after the incident.
Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, was arrested on charges of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and discharge of a firearm inside of a dwelling. He was transported to Loudoun County Adult Detention Center and held without bond.

According to online court records, Elijah Bieniemy was arraigned Monday morning and will have a preliminary hearing Aug. 31.

The Chiefs confirmed to USA Today Sports that Bieniemy is currently away from the team.
"The club is aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family," the team said in a statement. "Out of respect for their privacy, we won’t have a comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them."
According to property records, Eric and Mia Bieniemy own a house on the 20000 block of Northpark Drive in Ashburn, Virginia, where the alleged shooting took place, according to the release.
Bieniemy was the Chiefs' offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2022 and returned to the role for the 2026 season. He was the Washington Commanders' offensive coordinator in 2023 before serving as the Chicago Bears' running backs coach in 2025.

Speaking after training camp practice on Monday, Reid told reporters that Eric and Mia Bieniemy had his full support.
"Our hearts to go out to Eric Bieniemy and his family. Thoughts and prayers are with them," Reid said, noting he would not address specific details. "... Eric will work through it. He's got a great support group here and is with his family as needed. We'll let time take care of it from there."
With Eric Bieniemy stepping away from the team, Reid said Joe Bleymaier will take over offensive coordinator duties for the time being. Bleymaier has been with the Chiefs since 2016, rising from offensive quality control assistant to pass game coordinator, the role he's held since 2023.
Reid added there was no timetable for a return for Bieniemy.
