Cherry Field, Tucson High School’s historic athletic facility, was rebuilt as part of a $20 million U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood basin project. High school baseball and softball practice began on the fields Monday, and the seasons begin Feb. 25.
Construction for the new fields and detention basin — at South Cherry Avenue and East 13th Street — began in July 2007 and displaced Tucson High’s baseball and softball teams all of last season.

A rededication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the detention basin are planned for 11:30 a.m. Feb. 21.
