A man who was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 Monday was wrangled by two Arizona Department of Public Safety officers after attempting to flee, authorities said.
Nathan Scott, 34, of Tucson was booked into the Pima County jail on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, endangerment and criminal damage, according to a department news release.
After midnight on Monday, DPS received citizen reports of a vehicle traveling the wrong way on westbound I-10 near Sunset Road.
An officer on the freeway between Prince Road and Miracle Mile saw the car coming towards him and placed his patrol car blocking the two inside lanes of traffic. The wrong-way driver managed to evade him and continued traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes, the news release said.
A second officer in the area made a turn in front of the oncoming vehicle attempting to stop it, and was successful, but after stopping, the wrong-way driver turned his vehicle and attempted to flee.

One of the DPS officers was able to push the wrong-way driver into the center median area until it was up against a concrete barricade, forcing the driver to stop. The driver made "a brief attempt to flee" and was taken into custody, according to the news release.
Authorities believe impairment was a factor.
